Croatians welcome 2009 at city squares
02 January 2009People throughout Croatia celebrated the New Year at city squares across the country and were introduced to 2009 with a singer, it has been reported.
Over 20,000 people in Rijeka partied at the Korzo Waterfront where music was provided by Zlatan Stipistic Gibonni and Hlandno pivo rock band, javno.com says.
The first minutes of 2009 were celebrated with fireworks and music from Wiennese Wakth before the mayor Vojko Obersnel wished his country a happy new year.
According to figures from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board, 12,000 tourists stayed in Kvarner during the festive period with 5,000 in Opatija Riviera.
While there was no snow covering the streets in Zagreb in the countdown to Christmas, it was still an important tradition in the city, it was reported.
