Croatia's EU membership draws closer still
04 May 2010Croatia has completed around half of the steps required before it can become a member of the European Union.
As part of the enrolment process, countries must translate all of the 35 chapters of EU rulebook into national law, explains the Croatian Times.
That Croatia is now 50 per cent of the way towards achieving this target could be considered an important milestone for the Adriatic country.
Stefan Fule, commissioner for enlargement, is reluctant to give an estimate on the date Croatia may be adopted as a new member until more chapters are converted, the newspaper states.
But tourists could start planning their Croatia holiday now, with even greater facilities set to be on offer once the nation is in the EU.
Extra funds should become available to improve infrastructure, such as transport links, making it simpler to travel around the country.
It is thought that Croatia will publish three further chapters of the law changes by June.
