Croatia's handball championship unveils mascot

Organisers of the World Handball Championship have unveiled the mascot for the upcoming event, which is set to begin tomorrow (January 16th).

According to the national news service Javno, the Croatian-based tournament will feature Ruski, an overgrown, multicoloured caterpillar designed by the country's handball association.

Sandi Sola, president of the Croatian Handball Association, told Javno: "The mascot … reminds people of the great sporting event."

Javno added that the name choice was actually a strange one for Croatians, due to its similarity to the words backpack and Russia in the language.

The World Handball Championship will be held between January 16th and February 2nd, with the hosts one of the favourites to walk away with the esteemed trophy.

Anyone staying in Zagreb for the event may want to consider renting a Croatian villa for accommodation, which provides a comfortable and affordable alternative to a hotel.
