Cruise ships 'mark start of Dubrovnik holiday season'
15 March 2010The arrival of a cruise liner in Dubrovnik over the weekend may mark the start of tourists flocking to the ancient Croatian city for a summer holiday.
Spanish vessel Gimini arrived in the walled city on Saturday (March 13th) with around 940 passengers on board, the Croatian Times reports.
Another cruise ship carrying more than 3,000 holidaymakers is expected in Dubrovnik later this week.
Gimini used the new port facilities at Gruz, in the south of Dubrovnik, the newspaper reveals.
Such an influx of travellers to Croatia could indicate to many potential tourists that the Adriatic coast is once again the place to be as the weather begins to warm.
Earlier this month, the Telegraph's Jonny Morris remarked that travellers to Dubrovnik can expect "soul-inspiring architecture" upon their arrival.
The city's car-free streets offer a "parcel of European history [and] culture" and views over the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea.
