Cycle marathon may lure travellers to Croatia
23 June 2010Keen cyclists may find a last-minute holiday in Croatia is just what they are looking for this month.
The Pannonian bicycle marathon begins on June 26th, taking in eight counties across Croatia, the Croatian Times reports.
Some riders could opt for a Croatian villa as the perfect base for their travels, with the route set to take in much of the country.
Each of the counties visited by the cyclists will present some of its greatest tourist offerings, including a display of its traditions and culture, the newspaper explains.
The five-day cycle is expected to finish in the most eastern town of Croatia, Ilok, on July 1st.
As well as creating an opportunity to take a close look at a significant portion of one of Europe's most historic countries, the event may be considered by some as a chance to enjoy the summer sun close to the Adriatic Sea.
Alternatively, if the marathon is not to the taste of travellers, they could instead cycle along the Dalmatian coast, taking in resorts such as Split and Dubrovnik.
