Doctor Who to go overseas again after Croatia success12 October 2010
Hit BBC show Doctor Who will once again film scenes for its new series overseas, following the success of a project it carried out by travelling to Croatia.
Two episodes in the most recent run of the programme were shot in the ancient town of Trogir, on Croatia's Dalmatian coast.
The quaint and historic resort was used to double up as both 16th-century Venice in Vampires of Venice and as 19th-century France in Vincent and the Doctor.
Viewers who saw the clips from Trogir may have been inspired to book a holiday in Croatia in order to experience the country's heritage and culture for themselves.
Now, the BBC is taking production staff and actors Matt Smith and Karen Gillan back on the road, although this time they will be heading to the US for filming.
Trogir is located only a few miles north of Split, meaning it can be easily accessed from the city's airport, which welcomes budget flights from the UK with airlines such as easyJet.
