Dubrovnik holiday 'offers great chance to enjoy the great outdoors'
23 March 2010While many travellers to Dubrovnik will have a walk around the city's ancient walls, relaxing strolls on its cobbled streets and a splash in the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic near the top of their to-do lists, it is worth considering some of the nearby countryside for a visit.
According to Meri Matesic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Office for London, there are a number of beautiful spots within a few miles of the historic city.
For example, tourists could visit the popular and famous peninsula in Ston - a spot renowned for its oysters.
There is also the Neretva delta - the only such feature in the whole of Croatia, the expert explains.
And those taking a Croatia holiday in the area with a passion for both heights and sights are advised to climb the 430-metre Mount Srd.
Finally, hopping on a boat and heading to the island of Mljet is a top idea for a day out, Ms Matesic says.
Budget airline bmibaby has recently announced it will offer a new route from East Midlands Airport to Dubrovnik, starting in May.
