Dubrovnik holiday 'offers plenty to do and see'

Dubrovnik is a city full of history, elegance and mighty walls, according to one newspaper.

The walls and fortresses win the majority of attention from travellers to Croatia, but it is worth noting there are other streets and spots that are well worth a look.

One of these is the Stradun, the city's main street, which is beautiful and elegant and contains Onofrio's fountains, the Times of Malta explains.

Another place visitors are advised to spend some time is the church of St Blaise - the patron saint of Dubrovnik - as well as the city's cathedral.

The newspaper goes on to recommend idyllic day trips away from the ancient walled city, such as those to Mostar and Cilipi, known for its traditional culture.

Dubrovnik is also perfectly placed as a gateway to the rest of the Balkans, with Bosnia and Herzegovina just a short journey away.

Earlier this year, Dubrovnik was named by the Guardian as Europe's second-most romantic destination.
