Dubrovnik holidaymakers can soon visit country's longest market
30 March 2010Travellers to southern Croatia will soon be able to visit the country's longest market, which is currently under construction.
Croatian Motorways is building the market along a 16.5km stretch of road between Opuzen and Ploce, reports the Croatian Times.
The aim of the project is to replace the isolated premises of traders selling local produce and move them to a purpose-built facility.
Items currently sold at such establishments include wine, cheese, fruit and honey, the newspaper explains.
At a cost of 250,000 kunas (£30,7660), the new market will offer visitors parking spaces, rest areas and the opportunity to buy authentic Croatian goods.
Tourists searching for a taste of life away from the country's main cities may wish to visit the market, which is just a short distance from Dubrovnik.
Meri Matesic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Office, recently said many of the areas surrounding Dubrovnik are beautiful.
