Dubrovnik "is a tourist's dream"

One traveller to Croatia has reported on his perfect break in Dubrovnik, labelling the city "a tourist's dream".

Aasma Day, writing for the Lancashire Evening Post, said he was wary that Dubrovnik would not live up to the sky-high reputation it has earned with tourists in recent years.

However, from almost the first sight of its ancient walls and colourful roof tops, Mr Day knew he was in for a treat.

"Dubrovnik is a city that is not just aesthetically pleasing, but steeped in a rich and fascinating history," he explains.

The city's old town area is "full of sightseeing delights", perhaps headed by the walls that surround it, while its beach offers a "unique and charming experience".

And those who visit Dubrovnik are not confined to within its city walls, as Mr Day notes it acts as a "great base" to explore the rest of Croatia.

According to the 2001 census, the sun-kissed resort has a population of just over 43,000.
