Dubrovnik 'is top Valentine's weekend break destination'

Loved-up couples looking for the perfect Valentine's getaway should head to Dubrovnik, Croatia, according to the Guardian.

The newspaper has revealed its top ten romantic destinations - with a Croatian holiday faring particularly well.

Dubrovnik was named as the second best choice for a February break, finishing behind only Prague.

"The centre of the compact walled town is full of gorgeous boutiques and unusual jewellery stores, pretty cafes with flower-filled gardens and tiny bars with plenty of private nooks and crannies," the publication stated.

People who opt for a weekend or even longer in a Croatian villa in Dubrovnik could be following in the footsteps of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor who regularly visit the country.

Other recent celebrity holidaymakers on the Adriatic coast include Jennifer Aniston, Bernie Ecclestone, Beyonce and Jay Z.

Lufthansa this week announced it is opening new routes to Dubrovnik this summer - which could be ideal for those who do not manage to visit the historic metropolis on February 14th.
