Dubrovnik 'is top place to pop the question on Valentine's Day'

Men and women planning to ask their partner to marry them on Valentine's Day have been advised a holiday in Dubrovnik is one of the best ways to do it.

CNN, compiling its list of the best ten places in the world to pop the question, names the ancient city in southern Croatia in eighth place.

It suggests taking a day trip to the nearby island of Lokrum, which it even notes has a nudist beach for "the more adventuresome".

Time should also be spent roaming the historic cobbled streets of the city, with the gothic, renaissance and baroque palaces, fountains and churches providing a beautiful backdrop.

Then, once darkness falls, the news source recommends getting down on one knee and making the romantic gesture.

Earlier this week, the Croatian Times reported how Italian newspaper Corriere della Serra had recommended Dubrovnik as perfect for a Valentine's Day break.
