Dubrovnik walls 'most popular attraction to Croatia travellers'

The ancient walls of Dubrovnik are the number one attraction on a Croatia holiday among foreign visitors to the country.

Some 11,000 tourists from overseas visited the historic structures that surround the city during the first quarter of the year, new figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics reported by the Croatian Times reveal.

Another spot travellers may like to venture to is the shrine in Marija Bistrica, which topped the list of places visited by Croatians.

The country's national parks, such as Plitvice, also performed well, with the rural area receiving 10,000 tourists and Kornati welcoming 7,000, the newspaper explains.

Dubrovnik's walls take approximately an hour to navigate by foot and offer views of not only the city but the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea too.

For a different perspective, travellers to Croatia could use the new cable car that is due to open this month to reach the summit of Mount Srdj, which overlooks Dubrovnik.
