Elafite Islands 'are ideal day trip destination' while on holiday in Dubrovnik
05 October 2010Visiting the Elafite Islands should be a priority for tourists searching for one-day excursions to spice up their holiday in Dubrovnik.
Once belonging to the ancient city's republic, the islands are both beautiful and packed with a unique culture that many travellers will love.
The Dubrovnik Tourist Board recommends the landmasses as one of the top ten places to visit while staying in accommodation in Croatia's premier resort.
One of the highlights is the gastronomic delights to be found on the islands, which range from home-grown vegetables to freshly-caught fish and seafood.
The climate also makes the Elafites ideal for vineyards, meaning wine of the highest quality is produced, as well as tasty olives.
Meanwhile, one of the islands, Lopud, is said to be an "obligatory destination" for fans of modern art.
Ferry services to many of the islands surrounding Dubrovnik are available from the city's port, as well as longer-haul routes to Italy and elsewhere in the Adriatic Sea.
