Enjoy the Feast of St Blasius on a Dubrovnik holiday
04 February 2011People enjoying a Dubrovnik holiday at the moment might want to leave their luxury villa and make their way to the main streets of the city, as a cultural festival is currently going on.
The Feast of St Blasius began on February 2nd with the Virgin Mary Candlemas and the release of a number of white doves in front of the beloved Church of St Blasius, as well as the raising of the saint's flag on Orlando's column, travel blog Argophilia reports.
This tradition can be traced back as far as 972, when St Blasius appeared in front of Stojko to warn of an imminent attack on the township by the Venetians.
Aside from religious ceremonies, the remaining days of the festivities will see sports, musical programmes and cultural and entertainment events put on.
However, those who are only just beginning to plan their Croatia holidays might want to book their trips in April as, according to the Croatian National Tourist Board, the Asparagus Festival is due to take place on the slopes of Ucka Mountain to celebrate the region's produce.
