Escape the snow by taking cultural Croatia holiday
01 December 2010British tourists looking to get away from the snow that is grinding the UK to a standstill could book a last-minute holiday in Croatia and take the chance to learn a little more about the country's culture and history.
This weekend (December 4th and 5th) sees The Miners' Days take place in the town of Ivanec, just north of Zagreb.
The Croatian National Tourist Board describes it as a celebration of the traditions of the area, where the history is largely based upon the mining industry.
An exhibition is opened up to visitors showing off old tools and other items that detail the hardship of those who lives in years gone by.
There is then a procession through the town featuring members of the Ivanec Miners' Company, designed to ensure all those who have travelled to Croatia feel welcome at the festival.
Other events coming up in Croatia over the coming weeks and months include the Oyster Festival in Dubrovnik, which is set for March.
