Europe's first rotating hotel coming to Croatia
20 October 2009Tourists could soon be drawn to Croatia by a remarkable project - Europe's first rotating hotel.
A £90 million development is earmarked for a plot on the island of Solta - about ten miles off the coast of Split.
It is the idea of Richard Hywel Evans of Studio RHE - a specialist in holiday resort design.
The hotel would be three storeys high, with its base remaining still and higher levels on a turntable which would rotate 1.3 times every day.
Split businessman Vicenco Blagaic has agreed to fund the hotel and told the Daily Jutarnji he had been working on the project for five years.
Mr Blagaic believes construction on the luxury hotel could start next year.
Also included in the hotel complex would be a marina, a yacht club, guest pavilions, villas and a stage for live performances.
The rotating hotel project could be another boost to the development of Croatia, following recent investment in Rijeka ferry terminal and Zagreb Airport.
