Famous Bethlehem light could be seen on holiday in Zagreb
15 December 2009Visitors to Zagreb, Croatia could view the spiritual Bethlehem Christmas Light of Peace, which is currently on display in the city.
Traditionally, the light is lit in Jesus's birthplace two weeks before Christmas and then tours selected countries across the world, reports the Croatian Times.
It was unveiled in the Croatian capital on Sunday (December 13th) and may be of interest to tourists currently in Zagreb.
Croatia's Scout Association took charge of the light as it began its journey through the city, having brought it from Vienna, Austria, according to the newspaper.
The Light of Peace idea originated in Austria in 1986 when a woman decided she wanted to give a symbol of light, hope and love to the world - and since then it has been in the care of the Scouts.
It may now be of extreme interest to those in the Croatian city this week, representing a unique opportunity to witness something from one of the planet's most religious townships.
Culture vultures in Croatia this week may also want to pay a visit to a charity concert in which opera icon Jose Carreras will perform on Saturday (December 19th).
