Figures reveal increased demand for Croatia holidays
29 July 2009New figures show that the popular holiday destination of Croatia is proving popular, despite the global economic recession.
According to data from the country's ministry of interior and the latest Croatia travel figures, the country welcomed a total of 242,000 tourists over the last weekend in July, compared to 235,000 in the same weekend in 2008, reports the Croatian Times.
In total, the figure suggests that a total of 986,000 foreign visitors travelled into the country over the summer weekend. The highest level of traffic was reported on the Saturday when a total of 167,000 vehicles entered Croatia.
Meanwhile, the latest Post Office Beach Barometer has named Croatia has one of the best-value holiday destinations in Europe for British holidaymakers and offers a strong alternative to other more expensive resorts.
For example, a large beach towel costs an average of £13.85 in France but just £2.59 in Croatia.
