Flights to Croatia behind 'exciting 2011 for airport'
17 January 2011Cardiff Airport has highlighted the upcoming launch of flights to Dubrovnik, Croatia as one of the reasons behind its positive outlook for 2011.
The Welsh travel hub recently announced it suffered a drop in passenger figures during 2010, with 200,000 less people using the facility.
But it is confident the trend can be reversed over the next 12 months, with its portfolio of new routes key to this.
Spencer Birns, Cardiff Airport's head of commercial operations and air services development, explains there are factors – such as the ash cloud and the economic downturn – behind its poor year.
However, he emphasises: "2011 promises to be a more exciting year for us, with new routes including Funchal, Dubrovnik, Naples and Verona available in the summer."
Welsh holidaymakers may deem this summer to be the perfect time to travel to Dubrovnik.
Those who cannot wait to do so and take a break over the next month will find they can enjoy events such as the Dubrovnik Carnival and Night of the Museums.
