Flights to Croatian island launched by airline

British holidaymakers will be able to travel to the island of Krk directly from London after an airline decided to launch a new set of flights to Croatia.

The English capital will be linked to the landmass - which lies off the coast of Rijeka - by Croatia Airlines, the Croatian Times reports.

With a return ticket costing about £170, tourists hoping to lap up the tranquillity and beauty of Dalmatia and its islands may find the new route is their best bet.

A local tourist board has stepped in to part-fund the service, which was closed a year ago, the news source notes.

It is hoped its return will boost tourism in the northern part of the Adriatic, with a rise in numbers staying in accommodation on Krk and in Rijeka perhaps anticipated.

The newspaper cited the daily Vjesnik this week, which had stated more than two million people have now arrived at Zagreb Airport in 2010.
