Food firm formed in Croatia
03 October 2008A joint company formed in Croatia should keep food prices in the country relatively inexpensive, it has been claimed.
Reuters reports Plodine, Slovenian company Mercator and Austrian firm Billa have teamed up to become more competitive as consumer spending remains strong despite the current global economic situation.
The consortium will cover 20 per cent of the Croatian food market, with Konzum leading on 30 per cent.
Alan Krickovic, senior executive at Mercator, told reporters: "Our goal is to purchase products at favourable prices and eventually offer lower prices for consumers, something very important amid ongoing inflationary pressures."
Meanwhile, Hvar was recently praised by Tips from the T List for its local food and drink specialities, with the island's pepper cakes particularly vaunted.
Dalmatian wine was also described in glowing terms, with the source stating there are still some smaller wineries on the island, many of which are used by local restaurants.
