Gardening fans 'set for famous Croatian flower show'

Green-fingered holidaymakers may find Croatia at the top of their list of dream destinations in the coming month after learning that a prestigious flower show is to take place.

The Zadar County Flower Festival offers visitors a range of eco-workshops, presentations, lectures and, of course, scores of colourful flower displays.

According to the Croatian National Tourist Board, visitors can "take a deep breath and allow [themselves] to be swept by the sumptuous beauty of nature aided by human hand".

Travellers to Croatia for the festival, which starts on April 23rd and lasts for three days, could combine it with a visit to the ancient city of Rijeka, in the north of the country.

The flower show has been taking place annually for nine years close to Rijeka.

Rijeka may recently have lured a number of travellers to the Balkans after holding its month-long carnival, of which a snowboarding event was the highlight.
