Govt steps up Croatian tourism drive
23 February 2009The Croatian government has stepped up its efforts to get more people to visit the country this year.
As reported by the Croatian Times, authorities in the south-east European hotspot have signed agreements with local tourism firms for joint advertising programmes on television, websites and in newspapers.
Minister for tourism, Damir Bajas, told the Croatian Times that many companies could also look to cut prices in a bid to attract additional visitors to the country.
He commented: "I am not in favour of lower prices in the tourism sector, but this is the wrong time for price increases because the market will be very price sensitive this year.
"We have to be aware guests will more than ever before compare what they are getting for the price they are paying."
Figures published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics this month revealed that over 11.26 million people visited the country during 2008.
