Holiday in Croatia 'is one of Europe's best'
21 October 2010Croatia has been named as one of the top holiday destinations in Europe by one of the UK's leading newspaper groups.
The Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk Travel Awards were announced recently, with the country performing well.
In the category of Best European Country, Croatia finished in an impressive fourth place, perhaps illustrating its popularity with travellers.
Indeed, the nation was behind only Austria, Switzerland and Sweden, meaning it is seen as more desirable than traditional vacation hotspots such as Spain, Greece and Turkey.
Among the factors behind Croatia's success could have been its attractive blend of history, culture and beautiful weather.
The ancient cities of Dubrovnik, Split and Trogir, as well as the picturesque beaches of the Dalmatian coast, may have been considerations for those finalising the awards.
A recent report by the portal Business, documented by the Croatian Times, found more people are travelling to Croatia – both independently and as part of a tour – this year than in 2009.
