Holiday in historic Dubrovnik is "captivating"
19 July 2010Heading to Dubrovnik for a holiday brings tourists close to a "captivating" history that is just as enjoyable as the city itself.
Travel expert Jade Li, writing for Helium.com, explains the resort in southern Croatia dates back to the seventh century.
Arguably the number one old attraction in Dubrovnik is the city's famous walls, which "hold memories [that] could fill history books", writes Ms Li.
The walls originated in the 13th century and have been decorated through the years, leaving a "formidable and protective" structure to be enjoyed today.
Ms Li goes on to note: "The city prides itself on massive stone bulwarks and its illustrious fortresses that coil around a resplendently miniature harbour."
Other spots to be recommended by the author include Katedrala Velika Gospa's - which translates as the Cathedral of our Lady - and the Dominikanski Samostan, or Dominican Monastery.
A recent addition to Dubrovnik's line-up of sights is a cable car that transports visitors to the top of Mount Srdj for a bird's-eye view of the area.
