Holidaymakers could find it easier to explore Croatia next year

Holidaymakers in Croatia could be among the greatest beneficiaries of a potential project worth hundreds of millions of euros designed to revolutionise the country's railway network.

According to a report by Vecernji List, also noted by the Croatian Times, a significant sum is being prepared by the Croatian Railways Infrastructure in order to pay for a huge upgrade to the service.

This could allow those on holiday in Croatia to get out and see far more of the nation while they are there.

It is hoped the work will begin as early as the first half of next year, although an overhaul of Zagreb's central station is already underway, the news source stated.

The organisation's chief executive officer Branimir Jerneic used a recent meeting with Stephan Fuele, European commissioner for enlargement, to reveal the plans.

Such work may be seen as justification of Croatia's bid to become the next member of the European Union, for which talks are ongoing.
