Holidays in Croatia 'more desirable than European average'

Holidays in Croatia have grown in popularity at an above-average rate over recent months, the latest figures suggest.

The numbers show there was a 4.5 per cent rise in the travel sector during the third quarter of the year, the Croatian Times reports Jutarnji List as stating.

This is in comparison to an average of 2.6 per cent across Europe and 2.1 per cent throughout the Mediterranean region.

Such statistics are also thought to have carried on into November, with early indications showing there was a 7.6 per cent surge in travellers to Croatia compared with the same month in 2009, the news source claims.

Holidays in Croatia at this time of the year can be popular as they offer a diverse landscape – from the beaches of the Dalmatian coast to the history of Dubrovnik – with a plentiful supply of winter sun.

A contributor to the Daily Telegraph this week suggested Dubrovnik is one of the continent's greatest "delights".
