Holidays in Croatia set to offer "new experience"
19 May 2010People heading to the Dalmatian coast in Croatia from June onwards will benefit from an altogether "new experience".
On June 1st, the new Dubrovnik cable car will open, transporting people from the ancient city up the adjacent Mount Srd, explains Opodo.
It will replace a service that ran on the route from 1969 to the 1990s and had 2.5 million passengers a year, but has been out of service since.
The cable car will be made up of two carriages, with capacity for about 30 people to take the three-minute journey at a time, the publication notes.
Tourists who journey on the mountainside will reach a peak some 405 metres above sea level, offering views across Dubrovnik and the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic.
Indeed, some people may even be able to pick out their accommodation in Dubrovnik from the summit.
Of interest to those wishing to stay closer to sea level are the city's ancient walls, which run around its perimeter and take about an hour to cicumnavigate.
