Horse riding holiday in Croatia may be budget-friendly

Holidaymakers seeking a new destination to head to and activity to enjoy this winter could be wise to consider horse riding in Croatia.

The country's tourist board recommends jumping into the saddle as one of the top pursuits to take up when in Croatia - and an expert suggests it is not as expensive as some people think.

Lynne Munro, chair of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Therapeutic Riding, says there is no need for costly clothes and accessories in order to ride horses.

She advises the only essential items are a pair of jodhpurs, a safety helmet and some boots with a heel.

Many of these are available from supermarket and other low-cost outlets, with Ms Munro adding: "For the rest of it, you don't need lots of fancy equipment. You just need to be comfortable."

The Croatian National Tourist Board recommends Istria and Dalmatia as the areas that are most suited to horse riding.
