Hvar 'is ideal Easter holiday hotspot'

Tourists searching for Easter tradition may wish to consider a Croatian holiday on the island of Hvar, where celebrations have not changed for more than 500 years.

Following The Cross - a traditional party on Hvar - takes place on April 1st, which could leave travellers plenty of time to book a Croatian villa ahead of the event.

Highlights of the religious ritual include a number of processions which start simultaneously and may take in the island's immaculate beaches.

According to the Croatian National Tourist Board, "this religious custom provides everyone around it with a unique spiritual experience".

Holidaymakers on Hvar are also ideally placed to enjoy day trips to the ancient, culture-rich city of Split or the neighbouring islands of Brac.

Hvar was recently suggested as an affordable and popular holiday hotspot by the Southeast European Times, which stated that its "beautiful beaches" are a particular draw for travellers.
