Hvar offers 'the perfect balance' for holidaymakers
22 April 2009The Dalmatian island of Hvar is the perfect destination for holidaymakers looking to make their first trip to Croatia.
That is according to the travel author Maeve Haran, who wrote in the UK's Telegraph newspaper of her recent experiences in the Adriatic hotspot.
Among the island's allure, she said, is its diverse selection of authentic fish restaurants, beaches and fascinating history, which offer enough charm to satisfy travellers from across the globe.
Ms Haran wrote: "It offers a perfect balance: sunbathing quietly during the day before getting dressed up to compete with the types whose yachts adorn the Venetian harbour."
She added that the island had "bags of atmosphere" and a number of cultural attractions, including its ancient fortress, Venetian Piazza and Franciscan Monastery.
Meanwhile, the internationally-renowned Forbes magazine praised Croatia this week for the cleanliness of its beaches, which are a major draw for overseas tourists.
