Iconic writer remembered in Split
21 October 2009Tourists in Croatia may wish to visit a tribute to a famous Croatian writer after it is unveiled in Split later this week.
A bust of legendary author Miljenko Smoje has been designed by Ante Strinic and will be displayed at the city's Lvxor bar, reports the Croatian Times.
Mr Smoje was responsible for the cult series Malo Misto - a run of books chronicling life in a small Dalmatian town.
Malo Misto featured several memorable characters which have become folklore in the town.
Ten years after Malo Misto the writer created Velo Misto - the story of life in Split.
However this was less successful - although it was still popular - and Mr Smoje died in 1995.
The discovery of an ancient Greek statue earlier this month may also have tempted tourists to visit Croatia.
A 2,000-year-old figure of Priapos, a Greek fertility god, was found by fishermen on the island of Krk.
