Increase in ships travelling to Dubrovnik confirmed

There has been a significant rise in the number of cruise ships travelling to Dubrovnik in 2010, the latest figures report.

Some 695 vessels transported about 912,000 visitors to the ancient city in the south of Croatia during the first 11 months of the year, according to an article by Slobodna Dalmacija that is cited by the Croatian Times.

This number is up by 11 per cent on 2009 levels, when a total of 621 cruise liners made their way to the popular resort.

It is expected that nine more ships will dock in Dubrovnik by the end of the year, bringing with them 9,000 holidaymakers, the news source states.

Each of those who travel to the city will have the opportunity to explore its historic walls, climb to the summit of the neighbouring Mount Srd and relax in its cobbled, winding streets.

Dubrovnik Tourist Board is promising it will host a great new year celebration on December 31st, featuring live music and theatre.
