Increasing number of ships travelling to Croatia
09 December 2010There has been a surge in the number of passenger ships travelling to Croatia, bringing more than a million tourists to the country in the process, new data has revealed.
Figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics, reported by the portal Business and summarised by the Croatian Times, showed 1.02 million people stopped on the Dalmatian coast between January and October this year.
Almost 75 per cent of those visited the fascinating and historic city of Dubrovnik, while 15.3 per cent docked in Split.
The total represented a 7.2 per cent rise on 2009 levels, while the arrival of 806 vessels means there was an 11.5 per cent surge in the number of ships heading to the country, the news source stated.
Travelling to Croatia by sea could be one of the most beautiful ways to begin a holiday in the nation.
Penny Guy, PR director at the Passenger Shipping Association, recently suggested there is plenty of "value and variety" to be found in journeys by boat.
