Island of Lopud 'is worth travelling to Croatia for'
22 October 2010One person to have recently travelled to Croatia has detailed the experience of spending time on the island of Lopud, one of the 1,200 or so landmasses found close to the country's shore.
Paola Totaro, writing for The Age, states the tiny resort is a "quintessential fishing village" with stone houses and a "labyrinth" of quiet and winding lanes.
The area is surrounded by pine forests and clementine groves, providing visitors with a tranquil spot in which to unwind and spend some time with loved ones.
Ms Totaro explains: "The plan had been to find a place without cars or computers, a spot where the pace of life might be dictated simply by the sun and tides."
Lopud is based around a crescent-shaped bay, offering tourists somewhere not only to fish but also to paddle and take a boat out to sea.
It can be accessed via Dubrovnik, where airlines such as British Airways and easyJet offer services to and from the UK.
