Istrian privacy lures celebrities to Croatia
09 April 2010The differences between the north and south of Croatia make it an ideal country for celebrities to travel to, according to an expert.
Meri Matesic, UK and Ireland director at the Croatian National Tourist Office, says the privacy offered in the Istria region is rated highly by the rich and famous.
Speaking of well-known arrivals, she states: "In Istria they don't announce it and celebrities really enjoy and like coming to Istria because they don't appear in the newspaper."
One recent traveller to the Istrian peninsula was actor Viggo Mortensen, who spent two weeks in Pula.
However, not all celebrities prefer to get away from the spotlight during their Croatia holiday, with some heading to Dubrovnik, Split and the southern Adriatic coast, where Ms Matesic suggests the media is often notified in advance of famous check-ins.
Mortensen has appeared in films including The Lord of the Rings, A History of Violence and The Road.
