Japanese tourists flock to Croatia
09 February 2009Croatia has seen a surge in Japanese tourists visiting the country, according to the latest official figures.
Data from the Croatian Central Bureau of Statistics has revealed that the number of Japanese nationals visiting the Adriatic nation soared during 2008, reaching more than 143,700.
The data shows that 11.26 million foreign tourists visited the country over the course of the year, with the largest concentration coming from Germany.
Overall, 57 million overnight stays were made in Croatia, were the majority of these travellers being based in countries such as Slovenia, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic.
The region also proved popular with British and US tourists, with more than 260,000 and 158,000 people, respectively, opting to holiday in Croatia at some point last year.
