Jose Carreras "thrills" Zagreb audience
21 December 2009Opera legend Jose Carreras "thrilled" a crowd in Zagreb on Saturday, which may have included holidaymakers currently staying in a Croatian villa.
The classical icon performed a medley of hits at the charity concert at the capital's Arena Hall in front of about 10,000 people, according to the Croatian Times.
It was the final event of the Step Into Life humanitarian project which is aiming to raise cash for underprivileged children.
Croatia's prime minister Jadranka Kosor was in the crowd to see Carreras and other musical heavyweights, such as Irish soprano Celia Byrne and pop star Toni Cetinski, the newspaper states.
Step Into Life has raised enough money for 33 young Croatians to attend university and complete a scholarship.
Other famous faces from the world of music due to appear in Croatia in the future include Metallica, who are set to perform in Zagreb in 2010 - possibly providing many with a good reason to book a Croatian holiday.
