July and August 'is ideal time to take a holiday in Dubrovnik'

Now is the time to book accommodation in Dubrovnik and start planning a holiday in the ancient city, according to a travel guide.

Travel Inspire says visiting the resort in the south of Croatia is best during the run of the Dubrovnik Festival, which takes place from July 10th to August 25th.

The event includes a rich offering of classical music, opera, theatre and dance, all of which could help to make a stay in Dubrovnik even more special.

But tourists in the city at this time will not be relying on the festival for all of their entertainment, with the travel website noting the importance of the historic walls of Dubrovnik.

It explains how the walls - which remain Croatia's most popular tourist attraction - are crucial to the classification of the city as a Unesco World Heritage site.

People who would like to walk the route of the walls may be interested to learn it takes about an hour to complete and offers some of the most beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea.
