Korcula 'is a favourite of holidaymakers in Croatia'

The island of Korcula is rapidly becoming a favourite with people on board cruise ships enjoying their holiday in Croatia.

Figures announced by Slobodna Dalmacija and reported by the Croatian Times show some 60,000 passengers are estimated to visit the spot by the end of 2010.

It means the island is second only to the ancient city of Dubrovnik, which is arguably the country's premier resort.

Korcula has had more than 200 moorings at its docks this year, the news source claimed.

Located just a short distance from Dubrovnik, the two tourist hotspots are linked by regular ferry services that allow visitors to take in both the Adriatic landmass and the prestigious city renowned for its red rooftops.

People planning a holiday in Croatia may be wise to take in Korcula on their travels should they wish to enjoy an authentic experience of the nation.

However, despite its popularity with cruise ship passengers, it could do little to prevent neighbouring Hvar being named as the world's fifth-best island to visit by readers of Travel and Leisure magazine, as reported by the Croatian Times recently.
