Kornati islands 'worth a trip from the Dalmatian coast'

The Kornati islands, which lie off Croatia's north Dalmatian coast, should not be missed, one travel writer has advised.

Noting the draw that Croatia has, Claire Wrathall wrote in the Financial Times about her trip around the Kornati islands.

While more modern islands like Korcula and Hvar, as well as the city of Dubrovnik, are established tourism spots, Ms Wrathall said the north is more "dramatic" and less frequented.

Exclusive Croatian villas could prove a comfortable retreat both before and after a trip by sea, as she explained: "Well out of reach of a phone signal, these clear ultramarine waters [around the Kornati islands] offer respite from the outside world. No surprise, then, that you can only really explore them by boat."

Discovering the area by boat could allow those on a trip to Croatia to really take in the beauty of the islands.

It was previously noted by George Bernard Shaw, after a visit there in 1929, that the islands must have been made by God on the last day of creation who desired to "crown his work".

There are 147 Kornati islands, with part of this area designated national park status in 1980.
