Last-minute Croatian holiday 'is a must for foodies'

Foodies may wish to book a last-minute break in Croatia and head to the country for a gastronomic fair this weekend.

Split's 15th annual GAST event will feature more exhibitors than ever before - 1,273 - according to the Croatian Times.

Securing a late deal on a Croatian villa could be one way to ensure an exciting weekend sampling the delights of traditional Croatian cuisine.

About 30 per cent of the people set to showcase their food at the event will be there for the first time, the newspaper reports.

Travellers to Croatia may be aware of the country's strong food reputation, with regular festivals from Split to Rijeka and Zagreb.

One such event - the Organic Food Festival - was held in the northern city of Sisak in December, while the Culinary Days fair took place in Opatija a few weeks before and featured almost 50 budding young chefs.
