Lion's 'miraculous story' may draw visitors to Croatia
05 March 2010Animal lovers may like to book a Croatian holiday and head to a zoo in Osijek to experience the unlikely story of a young lion.
Three years ago, the cub was unsightly and weak, with zookeepers believing they may have to euthanise, the Croatian Times reports.
But the lion, thanks to a new feeding and care regime concocted by Zagreb experts, has grown and flourished.
It is now "the most popular and beautiful lion" in Croatia, the newspaper states.
The experts found that the lion and his brother had originally been placed into a cage that was too small for them, which may have stunted development.
Securing a Croatian villa in the region and heading to the zoo, as well as other points of interest in Osijek, could provide tourists with the basis for a great holiday.
The Time Out website highlights Osijek Zoo as one of the "main attractions" in the northern city, along with the national theatre and the Church of St Peter.
