Luxury villa in Croatia may be affordable to many

Splashing out on a luxury villa in Croatia may be a realistic prospect for scores of UK holidaymakers, after new research showed many are prepared to increase spending on their summer break.

The study by YouGov, commissioned for BreadFX Prepaid Euro MasterCard, revealed more than a third (35 per cent) of people will raise the amount they pay on trips abroad this year compared with 2009.

A further 43 per cent of British tourists plan to match their outlay in the previous 12 months, while only 13 per cent said they will cut back.

The figures could suggest that many people will have the finance to secure a luxury villa in one of Croatia's most prestigious spots for the duration of their time away.

This could open up resorts such as Dubrovnik, Trogir and the Istrian peninsula to travellers.

Among the famous faces to have recently confessed to enjoying a holiday in Croatia is Joanna Lumley, who told Grazia magazine she was pleased to see DVDs of her hit show Absolutely Fabulous on sale in the country.
