Makarska 'is good base for holiday in Croatia'
16 July 2010Tourists planning to travel in Croatia while on holiday in the country may be wise to base themselves in accommodation in or close to Makarska.
Lonely Planet's Tom Hall, writing for the Guardian, notes the town is ideally placed for day trips and adventures to a host of popular spots and historic towns.
For example, it is easy to arrange a journey to Zlatni Rat - a renowned beach on the island of Brac - as well as the neighbouring island of Hvar.
Meanwhile, the ancient streets of Trogir and Split are not too far away, advises Mr Hall, while a slightly longer, but realistic, trip could be to Dubrovnik.
The port in Split also offers ferry services to a host of islands and nearby destinations, perhaps making Makarska the top spot to stay for those who wish to pack as much into their Croatia holiday as possible.
It may be worth flying to Split in order to enjoy a stay in Makarska, which can be achieved by booking with budget airline easyJet.
