Marina attracts nautical tourism

The ACI Marina Dubrovnik is rapidly becoming a main attraction in the town and is attracting more nautical tourists, a source reports.

Many people opt to travel to the country by boat each year, rather than the more conventional form of flying.

This increase in nautical tourism is seeing the marina, originally created in the 16th century, becoming one of the best in the country and the Mediterranean.

Croatia's coast and sea aids this, with the Dubrovnik Tourist Board stating it is blessed with "sheltered blue coves, sandy beaches, islands and rocky isles, an abundance of sea food and unspoilt nature".

This year saw five per cent more people arrive in the marina and a six per cent increase in overnight stays.

It is expected that 13,000 'boat days' or transit moorings will be taken up, while the marina also provides for 395 permanent or monthly berths, the source states.

Authors of the Sail the Dream blog recently reported that many British visitors to Croatia are based in the marinas, rather than touring round.
