Minister praises Croatian tourism sector
22 October 2009Croatia's traditional Days of Tourism festival is underway on the island of Brac.
The event was opened yesterday by the minister of tourism Damir Bajs, reports the Croatian Times.
Mr Bajs said that 2010 would not be easy for Croatians who rely on tourist income to survive, but that they could draw inspiration from the most recent season.
He stated that Croatians had been quick to realise the tourism industry would suffer a slump this year and had worked harder to mitigate that.
Foreign visitors accounted for around 85 per cent of the country's tourism revenue in the last 12 months and there are plans to remove the visa requirement for Indians and Chinese people so that holidaying in Croatia is as easy as possible.
Jorg Gieschen, head of Spain's THR - a tourism consultancy firm - said that Croatia should do more to promote itself because many Europeans still view it as an unattractive country, which it most definitely is not.
Last week the International Tourism Fair was held in Split - where a number of key figures in tourism from across Europe met to network, debate and close deals.
