More Russians set to take Croatia holiday
01 April 2010Croatia is gearing itself up for an influx of Russian tourists this summer, says one travel expert in the country.
Zagreb tourist company head Nadezda Baranovski believes a Croatia holiday will prove to be the choice for an increased number of Russians in 2010, reports the Croatian Times.
Last year, about 130,000 Russians visited Croatia, enjoying spots such as Dubrovnik, Split and the rest of the Dalmatian coast.
But Ms Baranovski predicts the number will rise to about 175,000 this year, with the travellers responsible for more than a million overnight stays, the newspaper explains.
One reason for the surge in interest in Croatia may be the government's decision to lift visa requirements for Russian visitors between today (April 1st) and October 31st.
Attracting tourists from the former Soviet country can be particularly beneficial, with Ms Baranovski stating they tend to stay on holiday for longer and spend more money.
Croatia has also recently been cited by the publication as being popular with German and Austrian travellers.
