Motorway opened in Croatia
23 December 2008An additional forty kilometres of new road has been officially opened by the prime minster of Croatia Ivo Sanader this week.
The motorway, which goes from Sestanovac to Ravca, is part of the Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik project which is expected to encourage tourism in the country.
Although there have been problems caused by recent heavy rain in Croatia, the opening of the road went ahead as planned.
Sanader also opened a section of the Karamatici Ceveljusa highway, which is seven-and-a half kilometres long, between the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ploce in southern Croatia.
The cities of Vinkovci and Osijek in Croatia were recently connected by rail once again on 14th December for the first time in 17 years, after a restoration which cost 90 million kunas (£9.8 million).
A journey between the two destinations will take around 35 minutes and the top speed on the route is 80 kilometres per hour.
